How to Gift Skins and RP in League of Legends (2026 Guide)
Almost every guide to gifting in League of Legends repeats the same wrong number: that you only need to be friends for 24 hours. Riot's own support documentation says seven days, and it has said so for years. That single mistake is why so many players open the Gifting Center, find the button greyed out, and assume the system is broken.
This guide uses Riot's current support articles as the source for every rule, limit and price below. Here is exactly how gifting works in 2026, what you can and cannot send, and what to do when the option is unavailable.
The gifting requirements, in full
Three conditions apply to every gift, regardless of what you are sending:
- The recipient has been on your friend list for at least seven days. It is 14 days on the Turkish and Brazilian servers.
- Neither account is banned or suspended. This includes Instant Feedback System penalties. Your honor level itself does not matter.
- Both players are on the same shard. NA to NA, EUW to EUW, and so on. There is no cross-region gifting.
On top of those, the level requirement and the daily cap depend on what you are sending:
| Content gifting | RP gifting | |
|---|---|---|
| What it covers | Skins, champions, rune pages | Riot Points |
| Sender level | 10 | 15 |
| Sent per 24 hours | 10 | 5 |
| Received per 24 hours | 10 | 5 |
The daily cap is a rolling window rather than a midnight reset. Riot spells this out for mystery gifts: once you hit the limit, your eleventh unlocks 24 hours after your first purchase, the twelfth 24 hours after your second, and so on.
What you can actually gift
Riot's list of giftable content is short and specific:
- Champions
- Skins
- Ward skins
- RP
- Summoner icons
- Rune pages
- Hextech keys
- Hextech chests
- Gifting-specific event loot
Anything outside that list is not giftable. In practice the big exclusions are content the recipient already owns, earned rewards such as Victorious skins, and everything locked behind the Sanctum.
That last one catches people out. Exalted Skins and Mythic Variants only come from the Sanctum, where you draw with Ancient Sparks at 400 RP each. They are not store purchases, so they never appear in the Gifting Center. If you want to help a friend chase one, gift them RP and let them draw for themselves.
How to send a gift
There are two routes to the same Gifting Center flow. The store route is the classic one:
- Open the store in the League client.
- Click the gift box icon in the top right corner.
- Pick the friend you want to send to.
- Choose the gift type: champion, skin, or RP.
- Choose the specific content.
- Type a personal message and click Send Gift.
The faster route runs through the social panel:
- Right-click the friend you want to gift in the social panel.
- Click Give Gift in the action list.
- Continue through the normal Gifting Center flow from step two onward.
If Give Gift is greyed out, that is the client telling you one of the eligibility rules above has failed. It is not a bug. Work down the requirements list: friendship length first, then bans, then region, then your own level.
Mystery Gifts and Mystery Chests
Mystery gifting is still live in 2026 and it is the cheapest way to give someone a skin, because you pay less than the skin is worth.
| Mystery Gift | Mystery Chest | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | 490 RP | 790 RP |
| What arrives | Random skin for a champion they own, or a random champion they do not own | Random skin for a champion they own |
| Minimum value | 520 RP | 975 RP |
| Buy for yourself | No, except during specific events | No |
The eligibility rules are stricter than for a normal gift. For a Mystery Skin, your friend needs at least 10 unowned skins they are eligible to receive across the champions they own. For a Mystery Champion, they need at least 10 unowned champions. Below that threshold the option disappears.
A few skins are permanently excluded from the mystery pool: Achievement skins, Collector's Edition skins, PAX skins, Rusty Blitzcrank, Urf the Manatee, Championship Riven and Riot Squad Singed. Mythic skins that can be crafted with Mythic Essence will not drop either. Duplicates are impossible, so your friend will never receive a skin they already own.
Regional rules that override the defaults
Two servers run their own gifting rules, and both are stricter than the global standard.
Turkey doubles the friendship requirement to 14 days. Everything else matches the global rules.
Brazil is the most restricted server by a wide margin:
| Rule | Brazil | Everywhere else |
|---|---|---|
| Summoner level (sender and receiver) | 32 | 10 for content, 15 for RP |
| Friendship required | 14 days | 7 days |
| Content gifts per day | 2 | 10 |
| RP gifts per day | 2 | 5 |
Riot also notes that gifting availability can vary by region at any time. If the system is not working for you and you meet every requirement, check the in-client ticker to confirm gifting is currently active on your shard.
Gifts are permanent, so check the Riot ID twice
This is the part worth slowing down for. Riot's refund policy puts gifts, both sent and received, on the non-refundable list, alongside chests, bundles, event passes and earned content. The gifting FAQ is equally blunt: gifts cannot be reversed.
Refund tokens do not help here. Each account gets three of them, they cover eligible unused content between 14 and 90 days after purchase, and gifts are not eligible content. Once the gift lands on the wrong account, it stays there.
Two habits prevent almost every gifting mistake:
- Read the full Riot ID including the tagline, not just the display name.
- Confirm the recipient does not already own the item, because the system blocks the purchase anyway and you will just waste the attempt.
When you cannot gift, send credit instead
The seven-day rule makes gifting useless for last-minute presents and for anyone outside your region. There are two clean workarounds, and both are official.
Prepaid gift cards come in $10, $25, $50 and $100 denominations for PC and are sold at most major retailers. They are region-locked to the market where they were bought, so a card purchased in the United States or Canada only redeems on NA, and one bought in Australia or New Zealand only redeems on OCE. Your friend redeems it under Store, then Purchase RP, then Prepaid Cards. Note that you cannot use a prepaid card to pay inside the Gifting Center itself, so sending the PIN is the intended way to use one as a gift.
Riot Codes start with RA- followed by 16 characters and redeem either in the client or at redeem.riotgames.com. Riot explicitly does not support codes bought from third parties, so only use codes from Riot or an official partner promotion.
Working out what to spend
If you are gifting RP rather than a specific item, it helps to know what the recipient can do with it. Riot's skin tiers are fixed:
| Skin tier | Price |
|---|---|
| Classic | 520 RP |
| Deluxe | 750 RP |
| Standard | 975 RP |
| Epic | 1,350 RP |
| Legendary | 1,820 RP |
| Ultimate | 3,250 RP |
Almost every new skin now launches at Epic or above, so 1,350 RP is the realistic floor for anything recent. A chroma is 290 RP.
Champions sit in five RP tiers: 260, 585, 790, 880 and 975 RP. New champions launch at 975 RP and step down into the cheaper tiers from their third season onward. Note that the March 2025 price cut halved Blue Essence costs, not RP ones, so the RP figures above are unchanged.
Riot Points are sold in fixed bundles. On NA that is 575 RP for $4.99, 1,380 RP for $10.99, 2,800 RP for $21.99, 4,500 RP for $34.99, 6,500 RP for $49.99 and 13,500 RP for $99.99, with the larger bundles giving more RP per dollar. Prices differ by region, and the League of Legends Wiki tracks the full table.
Gifting 1,380 RP covers any Epic skin with change left over. If you want to guarantee a Legendary, 1,820 RP is the number to hit.
The short version
Gifting in League of Legends is generous once you are past the entry barrier, and the entry barrier is almost entirely the seven-day friendship window. Plan a week ahead, confirm you are both on the same shard, and check the Riot ID before you confirm the purchase.
If the wait does not work for your timing, gift cards do the same job with none of the restrictions, and browsing League of Legends listings is the faster route when what you actually want to give someone is a full account rather than a single skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Seven days. Riot's official requirement is that the person receiving the gift has been on your friend list for at least seven consecutive days, which is 14 days on the Turkish and Brazilian servers. Many guides claim 24 hours, and that is wrong. If you remove someone from your friend list and re-add them, the counter starts again from zero, so you have to wait the full week.
- Level 10 to send content such as skins, champions and rune pages, and level 15 to send RP. The Brazilian server is stricter and requires both the sender and the receiver to be summoner level 32. Your honor level does not affect gifting, but an active ban or Instant Feedback System penalty on either account blocks it completely.
- Yes. RP gifting is a separate option inside the Gifting Center and needs sender level 15, with a limit of five RP gifts sent and five received per 24 hours. You cannot pay for it with a prepaid RP card, because only certain payment methods work in the Gifting Center. If you want to give someone a prepaid card, just send them the PIN so they can redeem it themselves.
- A Mystery Gift costs 490 RP and delivers either a random skin for a champion your friend already owns or a random champion they do not own, worth at least 520 RP either way. A Mystery Chest costs 790 RP and delivers a random skin worth 975 RP or more. Mystery Chests cannot be bought for yourself.
- No. Riot's refund policy lists gifts, both sent and received, as non-refundable content, and the gifting FAQ states plainly that gifts cannot be reversed. Refund tokens do not work on them either. Double check the Riot ID before you press send, because there is no undo and support cannot move a gift to a different account.
